ions - Student Luncheon
Laveen, Arizona |
|
| Rewarding Laveen’s best and brightest students |
For the past five years, our Lions Club has encouraged student achievement at Laveen Elementary School through a regular luncheon for kids in each classroom who are identified as Students of the Month. This effort, headed this by George Anderson, takes one outstanding student from each classroom off-campus for a sit-down lunch at a local restaurant. The Laveen Lions pays all the expenses for the outing including the cost of bus transportation, meals for a bus driver and three additional school staff members as well as 22 or so outstanding young scholars. |
The kids are kids through sixth grade who have been identified by teachers as having put forth extra an special effort in learning and behavior over the past month. Many of the kids are at the top of their class academically but those who make outstanding personal improvement are included as well. The student of the month luncheons began at Kay’s Kafe on South 43 Avenue where CEO Lion John Montalvo provided a generous discount. Starting in August of 2006 the luncheon moved to the Grill at Bougainvillea Golf Course where student dine luxuriously on hamburgers and French fries in a room with a panoramic view of the 18th green. |
